The whole country is excited for the return of two-time gold medalist Carlos Yulo, bronze medalists Aira Villegas and Nesthy Petecio, and the rest of the athletes who participated at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. There will be a Heroes’ Grand Homecoming Parade for them on Tuesday, August 13, 2024, at 3:00 pm.
As part of the preparations, the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has established a route for the grand parade, which will take place around the streets of Manila. The authority has also proposed alternative routes for motorists, so that they can avoid the heavy traffic that is sure to occur during the big event.
Heroes’ Welcome Set for Filipino Olympians
As soon as they arrive at the airport, the athletes will proceed to to the Philippine International Convention Centers (PICC) in Pasay City, according to a report by the Philippine News Agency.
From the PICC, the homecoming parade will start at 3:00 pm, passing through major streets until reaching the Malacañang Palace, where President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. Will be waiting to welcome and commend the outstanding athletes.
Route of the Grand Parade
Below is a picture of the route of the grand parade, shared by the MMDA Facebook page on Saturday, August 10.
From the PICC, the parade will pass through V. Sotto Center Island, turn left to Roxas Boulevard, turn right to P. Burgos Avenue, head straight to Finance Road, and then straight to Ayala Boulevard.
From Ayala Boulevard, the parade will continue straight to Casal Street, straight to Legarda Street, turn right to Chino Roces Bridge (Mendiola), turn right to Jose Laurel Street, and then finally, head to the Malacañang Palace.
Along the way, the MMDA will implement a “stop and go” scheme to ensure the smooth flow of the parade across major intersections.
Alternative Routes for Motorists
Meanwhile, motorists are advised to take the following alternative routes. This way, they can avoid the heavy traffic expected along the areas that will be covered by the grand parade.
For those heading Northbound towards R10:
- Roxas Boulevard Service Road
- Taft Avenue
- F.B. Harrison Street
- A. Mabini Street
For those heading Southbound:
- T.M. Kalaw
- U.N. Avenue
Coming Soon: Paralympics
After the closing of the Summer Olympics today, August 12, sports enthusiasts can look forward to the Paralympics, which will take place from August 28 to September 8, 2024. Around 4,400 athletes will be competing in 549 sports during the upcoming event.
Notably, the Philippines will send six athletes to the Paralympics: Cendy Asusano (para javelin throw), Agustina Bantiloc (archery), Allain Keanu Ganapin (taekwondo), Ernie Gawilan and Angel Otom (swimming), and Jerrold Pete Mangliwan (wheelchair racing). Good luck, everyone!
