How to Renew Driver’s License Online Using eGovPH App

Last August 2024, we shared the exciting news that online driver’s license renewal would be available for OFWs. Sure enough, the service was soon launched for OFWs in Taiwan, and is now available for all Filipino motorists, both inside and outside the Philippines.

On July 10, 2025, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) officially launched the Online Driver’s License Renewal System (ODLRS). By simplifying the license renewal process and reducing the need for physical transactions, this system has greatly enhanced accessibility for Filipinos. What’s more, it goes in line with the vision of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” R. Marcos, Jr., whose call for “digitization” aims to provide faster and better government services.

Guide to Renewing Driver’s License via eGovPH

During the launching of the new system, DOTr Secretary Vince Dizon encouraged motorists to renew their driver’s licenses using the eGovPH mobile application.

Developed by the Philippine government, the eGovPH mobile app, also called “e-Government Philippines,” aims to streamline access to different government services. Basically, it serves as a “one-stop shop” that integrates multiples online services into a single application. It also seeks to enhance and simplify interactions between the government and Filipino citizens, who can easily access various services using their cellphones or tablets.

Steps to Renewing Driver’s License Online

Before applying for driver’s license renewal online, you’ll need to download and install the eGovPH mobile app on your device first. The app is available in App Store as well as Google Play Store.

After you have downloaded and installed the eGovPH app, you can now use it to apply for online driver’s license renewal. Here is a step-by-step description of the process, based on a press release from the Land Transportation Office (LTO):

  1. Open the eGovPH mobile app and click the “NGA” (National Government Agency) icon. Search for “LTO,” then click.
  2. Select “Online Driver’s Application.”
  3. Click “Renew Your Driver’s License.”
  4. Upload or capture the front and back sides of your physical Driver’s License.
  5. Once uploaded, wait for the app to analyze your uploaded card. This process could take around one to three minutes.
  6. Once the app has validated your card, check and review the details on the screen, then click “Submit.”

Requirements for Successful Online Application

In the same press release, LTO Chief, Assistant Secretary Atty. Vigor D. Mendoza II advised applicants to complete a couple of requirements first before renewing their driver’s license: the Telemedicine Medical Examination and the Online Driver’s Enhancement Program (ODEP). These are the requirements that they would need to upload during the online renewal process, before making a payment and getting their renewed license.

Telemedicine Medical Examination

To undergo the Telemedicine Medical Examination, go to the LTO ODLRS portal, then click “Telemedicine.” Book an appointment, then on the scheduled date and time, attend and finish your online medical examination.

Online Driver’s Enhancement Program (ODEP)

The ODEP is a five-hour education program for motorists, designed to enhance their driving knowledge and skills. At the LTO ODLRS portal, click “ODEP.” Finish the five-hour education program online.

Online Payment

After completing the above “pre-requirements,” you can now proceed to paying for your driver’s license renewal online. Simply choose from the available payment methods, pay the renewal fee, and that’s it!

Card Delivery or Pick Up

After a succesful transcation, your driver’s licensed is considered “renewed,” and you can view your Electronic Drivers’s License (e-license) in the eGovPH app. According to the LTO Chief, the e-license is just as valid as the physical card.

As for the physical card, you can arrange for a courier to deliver it to your preferred address. Another option would be to select the nearest LTO district office, so you can pick it up from there.

No Need to Go to LTO for License Renewal

“All of these digitalization efforts are intended to make all transactions in the LTO fast and comfortable to all our clients as instructed by President Marcos through Secretary Dizon,” Asec Mendoza stated. “We continue evolving to further improve our digital services and expand the reach to all Filipinos, even abroad.”

The LTO Chief added that the online renewal process is a better alternative to physically going to an LTO office. He explained that applicants can save money on transportation since they can apply from anywhere! They also don’t need to wait in the long queues at most license renewal offices, thus saving them time and energy.

Similarly the Presidential Communications Office praised the launching of the online license renewal system. During a press briefing, Presidential Communications Undersecretary and Palace Press Officer Claire Castro declared:

Sa administrasyon ni Pangulong Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., hindi na kailangang pumila pa sa LTO ang mga magre-renew ng kanilang driver’s license sa ilalim ng Online Driver’s License Renewal System ng DOTr (Under the administration of President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr., those who are renewing their driver’s licenses through the DOTR’s Online Driver’s License Renewal System no longer need to queue up at the LTO).”

Furthermore, Castro mentioned that through the ODLRS, applicants can renew their driver’s license in as fast as 15 minutes. They can also have their new license delivered straight to their homes.

Patunay lamang ang programang ito na sa ilalim ng Marcos administration, hindi imposible ang pagbibigay ng mas mabilis at mas magaan na serbisyo para sa bawat Pilipino sa ilalim ng Bagong Pilipinas (This program serves as proof that through the Marcos administration’s vision for a ‘New Philippines,’ it is not impossible to provide faster and smoother services to every Filipino).”
