Exploring the Road Safety Interactive Center (RSIC) and IT Hub

Knowing the traffic rules and regulations is a must, especially for motorists or vehicle drivers. The best way to teach these rules is to start them young; for this reason, the Department of Transportation (DOTr), through the the Land Transportation Office (LTO) has come up with an ingenious facility: the Road Safety Interactive Center (RSIC).

Ever since the RSIC was officially opened last December 2023, the LTO has been inviting elementary as well as high school institutions to come and visit the center. Since these students will comprise the next generations of motorists, the LTO believes that it is important to teach them about road safety and responsibility at a young age.

The RSIC, together with the IT Training Hub, is located at the LTO Central Office in Quezon City.

What is the RSIC?

The Road Safety Interactive Center (RSIC) is a state-of-the-art learning facility. Featuring world-class technology, interactive stations, and engaging “edutainment” — the center serves as a road safety hub, where Filipinos of all ages can learn about road discipline, courtesy, and safety.

Through the use of modern technology and interactive “stations,” the RSIC seeks to teach everyone — students and the general public — about the importance of following traffic rules.

What is the IT Training Hub?

Aside from the RSIC, you will also find the IT Training Hub at the LTO Central Office. This three-storey hub uses computer technology for conducting seminars under the Driver’s Education Program (DEP).

Furthermore, the IT Training Hub houses the LTO’s data center, dash camera system, and web-based core system. It also serves as an extension of the LTO Central Command Center or C3, enhancing its capability to monitor motorists and vehicles on the road.

Features of the RSIC

Upon entering the RSIC, guests can explore the facility’s exciting “stations,” of which there are 10 all in all:

  • Station 1 – LTO Historical Timeline
  • Station 2 – LTO Artifacts
  • Station 3 – Road Safety Campaign
  • Station 4 – Edutainment Kiosk
  • Station 5 – Road Safety Interactive Games
  • Station 6 – Virtual Roadality
  • Station 7 – LTO Online Mock Exam
  • Station 8 – Driving Simulators
  • Station 9 – Life Size Road Accident Diorama
  • Station 10 – 4D Mini Theater

As you can see, the above stations include the following:

Interactive Stations. Learning is more effective when students can “interact” with the material. Through these stations, they can gain more information about road safety in an engaging way.

Driving Simulators. The facility features a two-wheel (motorcycle) as well as a four-wheel (car) driving simulator, where they can practice and get to “feel” what it’s like to drive an actual vehicle.

4D Mini Theater. The LTO has informative audiovisual presentations about road safety and road discipline, which the guests can watch at the 4D mini theater. These presentations include videos on pedestrian safety, child safety, teen driving, types of public utility vehicles (PUVs), and prevention of vehicle theft.

Online Mock Exam. Do you think you know enough to pass the theoretical driving test? Try this online mock exam, which tests your knowledge about the basics of driving and road safety.

Virtual Reality. This technology enables participants to “experience” driving and other transport-related activities in a lifelike manner.

Interestingly, the RSIC looks very much like a video or game arcade! The main difference is that it is focused on teaching its “players” about how to be responsible and disciplined on the road.

Final Thoughts

Without a doubt, road discipline and road safety is of the utmost importance. Whether you’re a motorist, a daily commuter, or a pedestrian on Philippine roads — being aware and obedient to the country’s traffic rules and regulations is a must!

Thankfully, through the use of modern technology and interactive approaches, the RSIC is able to educate people about road safety in a fun and entertaining way. It is our hope that many schools and offices will include this facility as part of their educational tours.

Speaking of modern technology, have you downloaded the CitiSend mobile app yet? This is a digital platform for reporting accidents, mishaps, and other emergencies on the road. Check out this article to read all about it!
