Have you ever been to Marikina, a.k.a. “Shoe Capital of the Philippines”? Known for its thriving shoe industry, Marikina is a highly urbanized city in the Philippines’ National Capital Region (NCR). As of 2020, it had a population of more than 456,000 people.
Like most other cities in the region, public transportation modes in Marikina include jeepneys, buses, taxicabs, and UV Express transport services. In the residential areas, there are tricycles and pedicabs, as well. To help manage traffic, the Marikina City Traffic Management and Enforcement Unit (TMEU) was established; it works closely with the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA).
What is Marikina City TMEU?
The Marikina City Traffic Management and Enforcement Unit (TMEU) is the unit in charge of enforcing traffic rules with the city, including the towing of vehicles. It is part of the City Transportation Management and Development Office (CTMDO), which is responsible for transportation management, planning, education, traffic enforcement activities, and regulations on the use of city streets.

Final Thoughts
As a highly urbanized city, Marikina encounters traffic congestion on an almost daily basis. Fortunately, the city’s Traffic Management and Enforcement Unit (TMEU) helps in managing traffic and enforcing traffic rules!
Meanwhile, in other part of the country, similar road authorities are also hard at work. In Mabalacat City, Pampanga, for example, there’s the Mabalacat City Traffic Enforcement Group (MCTEC).
