Taguig City Traffic Management Office (TMO)

Situated on the eastern part of Metro Manila, Taguig City is one of the most populated cities in the Philippines, with 1.2 million people as of 2021. It is also known for Bonifacio Global City (BGC), which is home to several embassies and multinational corporations.

As a highly urbanized city and business hub, traffic management in Taguig City is a must. So aside from working closely with the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA), the city has a Traffic Management Office (TMO) that manages the flow of transportation and ensures road safety for motorists, pedestrians, and commuters.

Vision for the City

Together with other departments, the Traffic Management Office (TMO) aims to achieve the Taguig City Government’s vision, which is for the city to be “a transformative, lively, and caring Probinsyudad, where empowered citizens lead meaningful lives with accountable and God-loving leadership.”

Interestingly, the term “probinsyudad” is a combination of the terms “probinsya” (province) and “syudad” (city). It implies that even though Taguig has become a highly urbanized city, there are areas where farming and fishing are still done, especially near the coastline. Hence, Taguig is dubbed as a “probinsyudad.”

Roadside Emergency Assistance in the City of Taguig (REACT)

In addition to managing traffic, the Traffic Management Office (TMO) offers the Roadside Emergency Assistance in the City of Taguig (REACT), which provides the following free services:

  • Flat Tire Replacement;
  • Battery Jump-Start;
  • Towing (within Taguig area only); and
  • Minor Mechanical Repairs and Adjustments.

The above services are provided between 6:00 am and 12:00 am in these areas: C6 Road, C5 Road, General Santos Avenue, DOST Area, and Cayetano Boulevard. Meanwhile, in cases of major mechanical issues, motorists are given referral to “talyer” (workshops).

To request for assistance, motorists can contact these numbers:

Taguig Mobility Office

Working alongside the Traffic Management Office is the Taguig Mobility Office, which serves as the main implementer of the city’s “mobility” programs and studies.

For instance, there’s the “Bike Friendly Ordinance,” which the Taguig City Government passed to encourage the use of bicycles as a mode of transportation. The ordinance also provides protection for cyclists on the road.

There are currently 60 kilometers of bicycle lanes in Taguig City. These are located along C6 Road, Cayetano Boulevard, and Bayani Road – Lawton Avenue, as well as roads to the city’s police stations, fire stations, emergency stations, bike shops, schools, churches, malls, health centers, and barangay halls.

Final Thoughts

Being a highly urbanized city, not to mention having BGC, one of the country’s major business and trading hubs — Taguig City needs to ensure road safety and the smooth flow of traffic, as much as possible. Thanks to its Traffic Management Office (TMO), driving or commuting within the city is made safer and better everyday.

Meanwhile, in other cities, there are road authorities as well, making sure that traffic is managed on major thoroughfares. In Pampanga, one such authority is the Angeles City Traffic Development Office (ACTDO). Read this article to learn all about it!
